The Polity Research Mood Index (PMI) is a composite measure that tracks the attitudes of Americans on four key metrics: the economy, quality of life, safety & security and government performance. On each quarterly national survey, we will ask Americans to agree or disagree with the following four questions on a "0" to "10" scale: Each quarter, we will calculate a 'PMI Score'—integrating responses to all four questions—and report that score as an indicator of the national mood.
